What Happens at Brownsea? |
Brownsea prepares Scouts to lead others by learning to lead themselves. It is designed to enhance and expand on training in leadership and Scoutcraft provided by the troop itself and paves the way for more advanced leadership courses, including National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). The course stresses Scouting values, outdoor skills, and basic leadership principles. At Brownsea, Scouts learn to work in Patrols that camp, cook, and solve problems together for three days and nights. They take part in learning discussions and ceremonies that develop Scout skills and leadership traits, as well as a number of Patrol activities that offer opportunities for hands-on learning and fun. |
Who Can Attend? |
The Brownsea Youth Leadership Training course is open to all Baltimore Area Council Scouts who are in good standing and have attained the rank of Second Class Scout. Boys and girls between the ages of 12 to 17 currently in leadership positions or who aspire to hold leadership positions will benefit from Brownsea. Scouts who successfully complete Brownsea training are awarded a Brownsea certificate, patch, and neckerchief to reflect their achievement. If you are a Scoutmaster, please consider which of your Scouts would benefit from Brownsea training and discuss this with them. If you are a Scout and have an interest in Brownsea, please ask your Scoutmaster if you can attend this year. |
What Does Brownsea Cost? |
The fee to attend Brownsea is $115.00 per Scout. If paid before March 15, this fee is discounted to $100.00. Full and partial scholarships are available for Scouts who demonstrate financial need. Spaces are limited and the course is expected to fill again this year. Be sure to enroll soon to reserve your place. |
